With every painting I try to focus on these four areas as I paint:
Color - a color scheme for harmony, color variety in each shape, neutrals added for balance
Value - at least 3 values for each shape and the entire composition, a path of darks
Edges - a variety of hard and soft edges throughout the painting
Composition - center of interest defined by largest shape, brightest color, most detail
